About this campaign

The Boeren van Amstel (Farmers of Amstel) are a group of 18 farmers creating a short supply chain between city and countryside, with cows grazing in the Amstelland meadows less than 10 km from the Dam in Amsterdam. Together with the dietitian of Topsport Amsterdam, they developed the sportiest quark of Amstelland, a high-protein quark aimed at athletes. For every litre of their dairy sold, two cents goes directly back to the farmers. The campaign celebrates local, regional dairy production close to the city, and is now in full production after reaching its target.

High-protein quark that doesn't taste like a supplement

I eat a lot of quark around training and most of it is bland or chalky. This one, developed with the Topsport Amsterdam dietitian, is genuinely creamy and the protein number is excellent. Knowing the cows graze the Amstelland meadows barely ten kilometres from the Dam makes it feel a world away from a tub off the supermarket shelf. Michel and the Boeren van Amstel are the real deal.

Local dairy I can actually trace

I backed this because I wanted dairy from a farm I could point to, and Boeren van Amstel deliver exactly that — eighteen farmers, meadows I have cycled past, two cents per litre going straight back to them. The quark is thick and clean-tasting and works in everything from breakfast to baking. The team are warm and reply personally, which I did not expect from a dairy collective.

The cows graze ten minutes from my flat

Living in Amstelveen, owning fractions in a farm whose cows I can see on a walk is a quietly lovely thing. The quark is great and the high-protein angle is a genuine plus around exercise. Four stars rather than five only because I would love a delivery option closer to my side of Amstelland — for now I collect it, which is fine but means planning around their hours.
